Walton Arts Center has held the lease on the old Porter warehouse at West Avenue and Spring Street since 1992, and in all that time the public never got in: the building was in no state to take anyone. The city restored the exterior, the center spent $950,000 on the interior, and the room is now the Alexander Gallery, 2,500 square feet and change under walls that move, so the space is rebuilt show to show. Walton Arts Center fills it with exhibitions by partner and community organizations, which this season means the region's own artists in the sixth annual OUR ART, up September 25 through December 20. Walk in Monday through Saturday between 11am and 2pm, or Thursday through Saturday evenings from 5 to 8pm; outside those windows the door at 212 N West Ave is shut, so plan the visit rather than drift past. Anyone curious what Northwest Arkansas visual artists are making right now should go this season.
