Arkansas Public Theatre

Take an usher shift at Arkansas Public Theatre and the terms are plain: check patrons in, point them to their seats, help with a light sweep after, and if the house has not sold out, you stay and watch for nothing. The whole company runs on those terms. Its fortieth season is six productions at the Victory Theater in downtown Rogers, from Come From Away in June to Fiddler on the Roof the following spring, and every one of them is cast, crewed, and front-of-housed by people who are not paid to do it. The people on the stage and the people in the seats are drawn from one pool, which is the thing to know if you have landed in NWA with a voice, a sewing machine, or a soldering iron and nowhere yet to use it: the season is how you get in. Ushers sign up with the company; you need to be sixteen, twenty-one if you are pouring drinks, and the dress code is business casual, with black or black and white preferred. Two years displaced from the Victory by the May 2024 tornado, the company came back in with the full six-show slate, not a shorter one. Each show runs two weekends and is gone, so put the dates down early. The Victory is a 1927 house the City of Rogers owns and fills on its own nights with film and concerts, ticketed separately, so buy your APT seats from APT.
