Dogwood Quilters Guild

The Dogwood Quilters Guild has no building. On the first Saturday of most months it borrows the community room at Grace Episcopal Church in Siloam Springs: a meeting first, then sewing and a potluck lunch for the rest of the day. Smaller stitching groups meet in between. A borrowed room and a standing date are premises enough for a guild that began in 1991 as a group of quilters who wanted to swap patterns and is now past sixty members, some of the originals still turning up. The sewing leaves the room. Pet quilts go to the Siloam Springs Animal Shelter to line the cages and kennels. Honor quilts go to veterans at the VA. Baby quilts go to the nursery at Siloam Springs Regional Hospital, where the aim is a quilt for every newborn and where the guild says plainly that at more than seven hundred births a year it barely makes a dent. Each April the guild hangs an Airing of the Quilts downtown during the Dogwood Festival. If you quilt, or mean to, this is where the craft is kept in practice in Siloam Springs: turn up at Grace Episcopal on a first Saturday and stay through the potluck. If you only want to look, the April Airing is the simplest way to see the work.
