Field Notes is the all-day cafe inside The Compton on the Bentonville square, and the everyday way in is through the hotel lobby. The street-facing walk-up window opens only for select events and activations, per NWA Travel Guide. Mornings the cafe pours Onyx, Northwest Arkansas's own roaster, alongside handmade pastries; evenings the same floor turns over to wine, beer, and live music on the patio. The room is the point. It is built to be settled into rather than grab-and-go, and people do settle in. Know what you are settling into, though: Indigo Road, a Southeast hospitality group of sixty-plus restaurants and hotels, runs the room, and the most local thing in it — the Onyx in the cup — is bought in; the credit in the cup stays the roaster's. That is the design working, not a scene that has made the place its home. Take the seat anyway. The square is right outside.
