Bea Apple founded Pressroom, sold it to Ropeswing, and helped launch Record, The Preacher's Son, The Holler, and Sunny's. Trisha Logan founded Fayetteville's Shindig Paperie, took Stationer of the Year in 2016, and holds a master's in textiles. In 2018 the two pointed all that room-launching skill at something slower: Hillfolk, a textile studio and shop in the 8th Street Market, equal parts classroom and retail. Workshops carry punch needle, indigo dyeing, and weaving from fundamentals on up; the shelves stock raw materials and tools alongside work by regional fiber makers; and once a month, on a posted Wednesday evening, a free all-ages craft night opens the floor to whoever brings a project. The studio's own Hillfolk yarn line was developed with ranchers and mills in Colorado and Wyoming — Rocky Mountain sourcing, chosen rather than inherited. Come to learn a technique or to make alongside people who already have. The founders' pedigree is launching rooms; this one is built to produce makers.
